Big Tobacco Ads

Just look at these ads (NYT subscription may be required) for cigarettes. My "favorite" is the one with the baby saying, "Gee, dad, you always get the best of everything. Even Marlboro!" Then the poster urges cig buyers not to worry about over-smoking.

Actually, can we call it a draw? Because I think my other favorite is the one where the doctors are co-signing on the greatness of cigarettes. Classic.

I don't know exactly what to say, besides maybe that hindsight is 20-20. These ads just had me thinking about all the poisonous products out there that are touted as harmless, even good for us, when the corporations that produce them know that's far from the truth. Now, if our government agencies aren't going to do anything to reduce the risk of harm from dangerous products, shouldn't people be able to protect themselves? Shouldn't we be able to hold corporations accountable for getting us to buy (even become addicted to) dangerous products?
