Bloomberg discharged from duty…
… jury duty, that is.
Okay, so this is definitely news-lite, but being that we’ve talked about juries a lot lately (like here, here, and here) I just had to mention it in case some folks hadn’t read about it already. Yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg was called to jury selection. He provided the following statement about juries and the civil court system: “You wish that we didn’t need juries, that there was no crime and no civil suits but the real world is people have to make decisions as to what’s right and wrong.”
Unfortunately, Bloomberg won’t be directly involved in that decision-making this time. He was not chosen to sit on. Here’s the AP article. Perhaps it was fear of fanfare, or an inkling that the Mayor’s status would render his opinion too influential over the opinions of the other jurors.
Bloomberg would have been the second consecutive NYC mayor to serve jury duty while also actively serving as the mayor.
