Corporate Interests Attempt to Buy Immunity for Wrongdoing

From the Consumer Attorneys of California website:

On Friday, July 13, 2007, the tobacco, oil and insurance industry-funded CJAC, joined with the Chamber of Commerce, to file an initiative to insulate themselves from accountability to consumers. The intent is to qualify for the June primary ballot. Please be advised CAOC is working with our consultants and coalition allies to protect consumers and to fight this attack on consumer rights and we will be sending regular updates. A copy of the initiative is linked below for your review.

Our Government(Corporations) have sold all of us upriver without a paddle. The problem is the population have surrendered various rights because of the climate in which we are all floating in. For fear of being labelled unpatriotic or worse. Traditional grassroots organization have lost their voices. We've unfortunately loss the ability to separate issues and with that the ability to fight. We've made it easier for Corporations to continually take advantage of the people. The people with the voices in the media are those who benefits from the stocks of big business, so everything gets lump under one umbrella and therfore dealt with as such. Unless the media wakes up and does their duty as the voice of all the people (bestowed by our Constitution) we are all in serious trouble. It will take a revolution for us to get back what we've lost post 911.

I would be more sympathetic to your positions IF 95% of class action lawsuits were legitimate. Unfortunately, 95% of them are pure, unadulterated crap designed to line the pockets of the attorneys bringing the cases. Don't believe me perhaps you would like some of the coupons members of the "aggrieved" class receive as "compensation" I get $1.29 while the lawyers get eight and nine figure fees.

Sorry folks, I'm with the Chamber of Congress on this issue. I would gladly, however, give up all efforts at tort reform in exchange for a complete "loser pays" approach to litigation, no exceptions AND the obligation NOT dischargeable in Bankruptcy. That would result in legitimate class action claims going forward and the usual bogus class actions either disappearing or being justly and savagely punished
