Finally, somebody decides to ask why Louisiana and the U.S. government are required to pay $2.7 billion in Katrina-related wind claims, which, as all ITP readers know, are covered under homeowners’ policies sold by the private insurance sector.

David Hammer of the Times-Picayune steps up with a fine piece that says the Louisiana Recovery Authority’s housing chairman, Walter Leger, a tort lawyer made famous in tobacco litigation, says the state should step into the shoes of policyholders whose wind claims the state is paying and pursue the claims against insurers.
