Judge is pressed to reveal donors By MAX B. BAKER STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER NATHAN HECHT NATHAN HECHTA Texas watchdog group wants Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht to reveal who donated money to help pay the $340,000 legal bill he incurred defending his right to speak out for his friend U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.
Texas Watch Executive Director Alex Winslow said the public has a right to know if the individuals and political action committees making the donations have any cases before the court, possibly creating a conflict of interest.
“I think that anyone with any business before the court would find it important to find out who is bankrolling the justice’s private legal expenses,” Winslow said. Texas Watch is a nonpartisan, consumer advocacy organization. (keep reading)
