Unions to Lobby for Workers’ Comp Reform
Unions to Lobby for Workers’ Comp ReformRochester Democrat and Chronicle
January 29, 2007Union members and supporters are planning a lobbying effort in Albany on Tuesday, Feb. 6, to push for reform of the state’s workers’ compensation system.
The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health is organizing the statewide effort to address what is emerging as the single biggest legislative imperative for both labor and management.
“Our message is simple,” said a statement issued today by the executive directors of the committee for the state and western and central New York. “It has been 14 years since the wage replacement benefit has been increased. Our maximum weekly benefit level, as a percentage of the state’s average wage, is the lowest in the country.
“We are one of only four states in the country not to index our benefits,” said the statement by Joel Shufro, the statewide official, as well as Roger Cook and Bob Tomkins, who represent western and central New York, respectively. (link)
