Are Judges Accountable?

John Marshall, chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835, said:

“The greatest scourge an angry heaven ever inflicted on a upon an ungrateful or a sinning people was an ignorant, corrupt, or dependent judiciary.”

Indeed.

And so our third installment in the Civil Justice Theatre series addresses the topic of judicial independence. Once again, we attempt to trigger the viewers’ discernment (and values) by engaging them in a conversation (as opposed to preaching to them) about founding American principles and the role an independent judiciary plays in preserving and protecting democracy and individual rights. Making the point required a animating some quickie civics lessons, including how the separation of powers works and how federal judges are appointed.

Again, I appreciate comments and feedback!
