New Bill Threatens to Let Payday Lenders Back in GeorgiaATLANTA – In 2004, Governor Sonny Perdue signed into law the nation’s strongest protections for consumers against payday lenders. Today, that law is under attack.
On Wednesday, State Rep. Steve “Thunder” Tumlin (R-Marietta) filed a bill that would overturn the state’s prohibition on payday lending. House Bill 163 would instead establish requirements for these lenders that are almost impossible – and expensive – to regulate.
